Spending $2,000 on a phone and watching the screen crack a few hours later is a rough way to start. That’s what some iPhone Duo owners say they’re dealing with, and users have already given the problem a familiar name: “Crackgate.”
The Duo is Apple’s first foldable phone, opening into a larger, tablet-style display similar to Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold devices. Reports describe cracks near the folding crease, with a bright white line appearing across the damaged area. One owner said his screen failed after just six hours and fewer than 20 folds.
Some buyers have reportedly received replacements from Apple, while others who purchased through wireless carriers have faced delays. Apple has not publicly explained the failures, and it remains unclear how many devices are affected.
A few broken screens don’t establish that every Duo has a problem. Still, these early reports raise a fair question about durability. At this price, buyers expect a phone they can open and close without worrying about the display.
