Apple Acknowledges iPhone Duo Display Failures as iFixit Examines the Hinge

Apple’s first foldable iPhone has barely made it into customers’ hands, and some owners are already dealing with broken inner displays.

The iPhone Duo, which starts at $1,999, went on sale October 23. Over its first weekend, users began sharing photos of bright horizontal lines spreading across the screen from the hinge area. Apple says the problem affects a small number of devices and is directing affected customers to AppleCare for a replacement.

The unanswered question is what’s causing the failures. After taking the phone apart and testing its resistance to dust, iFixit suggested that the hinge could be involved. Small manufacturing differences or particles caught in its moving parts could put pressure on the delicate display. That remains a possible explanation, rather than a cause confirmed by Apple.

According to CNBC’s report, an out-of-warranty inner-screen repair costs $999, making this an expensive component to damage.

There’s no reliable count of affected phones yet, and some images circulating online are fake. Apple’s acknowledgment establishes that a problem exists, but forum posts alone don’t tell us how widespread it is.
