Google and DISH Network Team Up to Provide Multichannel TV/Web Platform

With the announcement of Google TV during Google’s I/O conference in San Francisco, comes news of a collaboration between DISH Network and the big G.

The Google TV platform will have seamless integration between multichannel television and rich web media content, bringing the Internet to everyone’s TV.

DISH Network customers who use Google TV will be able to simultaneously search for content across its network, the Internet, and their DVR units.  Customers will have the ability to overlay online content related to television shows, movies, actors, and also hyperlink web content back to multichannel TV.

During today’s I/O keynote, Google CEO Eric Schmidt said “We are excited to bring the web to television and enable developers to innovate on the Google TV platform.  With DISH Network’s contributions, Google TV delivers a richer user experience and a compelling product for consumers.”

Google TV is planned to be available to customers later this fall.  For DISH Network customers, the company plans to update their software to include this integration on all HD DVR receivers.
