Facebook

Facebook = Google

A lot of people I know have stopped using Google for one reason. They feel Google knows too much about them.

Today on Twitter Mark Zuckerberg confirmed the acquisition of Gowalla by Facebook and said “We’ve acquired Gowalla. I’m ecstatic and can’t wait to have access to thousands of users’ location data.”

So will these same people who left Google, and yes people have stopped using google, also start leaving Facebook for the same reason? I personally don’t mind the acquisition I don’t use Gowalla, but it’s really scary to see a CEO of a company say publicly he is ecstatic to have access to thousands of users location data, especially after they just settled a privacy complaint with the FTC.

What do you think?

    Yeah it is a little scary. I’m a little leery of using Facebook too much. I’ve got my profile locked down pretty much but I also don’t share too much personal info because Facebook itself is watching.

    Yeah, I think I’m about done with them. Did you hear they just had a big glitch that allowed everyone to view private photos? I mean it’s just one security flaw after another, it’s getting ridiculous.

    i feel you. but isn’t that the end game for almost all these companies now? getting as much user info as they can so they can give you the most effective experience and give you ads that cater to you. the ad model is a money maker, obviously…but does it help in these companies giving a better experience? possibly. but it might be our fault as much as it’s theirs.
