AMD, Best Buy, HULU, Sprint, T-Mobile

5 Tech Companies That I don’t See around in 2020

closed-signIn the year 2020 I predict that the following list of companies won’t be around anymore. I think these companies won’t be around simply because either they are irrelevant or just have a bad business model.

First on the list is YAHOO. I think in 2020, Microsoft will own Yahoo and it’s search engine integrated into BING and it’s email will work on Hotmail.com. I think if Microsoft keeps the Yahoo brand around they won’t keep it for more than 5 years before it’s finally killed off.

Second on the list is Best Buy. They are doing right now the exact same thing Circuit City did. They are expanding too fast in areas they are not needed. Everywhere in my immediate area where there was a Circuit City there is now a Best Buy. These stores are almost always empty when I go. I literally have 4 Best Buys with-in 3 miles of me. Just have one HUGE store instead of 4.

Third on my list and maybe a shocker for most is AMD. I just find the company boring, and while the video card division is great their CPU division leaves a lot to be desired. Sure the APU’s are great but does anyone want a netbook? They have NO IDEA how to market anything. Any one know what the slogan for AMD is? DUM DUM DUM DUM. Oh wait that’s Intel. I know I will take a lot of heat for this one.

Fourth on the list is T-Mobile. I don’t think T-Mobile will go bankrupt I just believe they will be bought out by a 3rd party. I think a lot of people think it might be Sprint and I agree. I just hope this deal goes a lot better than the Sprint Nextel merger.

The Fifth and final company on the list is Hulu. They are not relevant anymore. Most cable companies now offer prime time shows on demand to compete with Hulu and Netflix. Plus with Hulu you don’t get the content as fast as other VOD services. Plus if I have to see commercials I don’t want to pay 8 bucks to watch it.

That’s my list, do you still see them around 8 years from now? By the way I wanted to make this list 6 companies and add Oracle. But I am not sure if they will be out of business in 8 years.

Add AOL and MySpace. I wrote about declining tech companies at the end of The Age of the Platform. No doubt that others will fall sooner than that.

I have but a little doubt that google will crumble and/or will be closed by us government for sharing/exploiting sensitive data with other countries (good ex. China.) and copyright.
AMD – will survive, its for budget pc’s and it always was. People got wrong idea on the way.
Rambus – they will most likely break ;/ its sad – such a great technology.
SearchEngines – This technology will fall ~ so google the way we know it, goes to hell either way. There will be more dedicated sites for dedicated needs of people ex. lets watch some movies – ytube… let’s see some ~ and so on…
as Microsoft pictured it in his new win8 its going to be kindergarten with colors and boxes to move and click what Bill always wanted :)

also worth mentioning as long as you give access to gadgets/technology to great amount of meat on 4 wheels with little awareness what those can be used and are being used people will be completely invigilated, full controlled and spied on. It pains me but its happening already for at least 10years in completely new format without hiding it, but advertising it… look how cool it is.
