A few weeks back HP Sent me their new MediaSmart Server EX495 to check out, and after playing with it I think it’s time I share what I think.
But before I share my thoughts I wanted to share a little tutorial I had my mom do a on how to set up the EX495. I had her do the tutorial because she had set up a MediaSmart server on her own in the past and this time I wanted proof that she knew how to do it. So we made a video, check it out here. She did get nervous making it and wasn’t sure how to explain everything so I did set her up with some cards to read off of.
HP sent me two of their Z400 workstations to test out one of their newest software solutions. The HP SkyRoom.
HP SkyRoom is basically web conferencing but with a twist. It allows you to share your desktop and applications in real time even resource hungry applications such as many CAD programs and allows you to display the 3D model you may create with no lag.
While recently strolling the aisle of Best Buy I saw Powermat a device that will allow me to charge some of my most used devices (iPhone, Nintendo DS and iPod Touch) wirelessly.
I looked at it and thought that it was a gimmick. The Best Buy employee tried his hardest to sell it to me but I didn’t bite. Especially with the $100 price tag that I thought was too high.
A week or so later I get an invite from the Powermat people to visit their booth at CES and I outright asked them if their product worked as advertised and they said they would send me one so I could see for myself and they did.
I have been a huge fan of the HP ProBook line since it was first announced, and with each refresh it gets better and better, while keeping the same simple yet stylish design.
HP loaned me their ProBook 5310m for about two weeks and I really enjoyed having it. I used it as my main notebook for the entire time and the power it delivered along with the 5 and a half hours of battery life it gave me impressed me. The long battery time has to do with the low volt intel processors.
Before I continue with the review, I have to note that the ProBook line is a line designed for business users. However it definitely will appeal to business and consumer users alike. HP’s Consumer team should also take a look at the way the business team has designed the ProBooks. They are beautiful machines and in my opinion are what the Envy line should have been.
I am the proud owner of an iPhone and winter is knocking at my door. Just today there was a windchill of 19 degrees in NYC and with those temps you can get frost bite pretty fast. So I wear gloves but the problem I then face is my iPhone because unusable. That is where Dost Glvoes come in.
The Dots Gloves allows you to use your iPhone while keeping your hands warm. The gloves have these dots on the tips of of the gloves that I assume allow heat from your finger to pass through so that the iPhone can recognize your touch.
Symantec today launched their newest version of their Norton Online Backup solution and I have to say I am impressed. The last version I wasn’t a huge fan of. I thought it was slow and sometimes caused a slow down on my system.
I didn’t give it a good review and infact told people who were using the Norton 360 product to back up to an external hard drive and not use the online backup service that Symantec provided. But opinions change and mines has, the newest version is a major improvement and worth trying.
Winners have been selected and will be notified via email. We will announce them after we have notified the winners and they all get back to us.
Three weeks ago WD sent me their brand spanking new My Book Elite to check out and I have to say it’s a pretty sweet external HDD.
For those who haven’t done so check out my unboxing video, so you can see for yourself how elegant the drive is. WD for some time has had in my opinion some of the best looking external drives. This is the first black one I have had and I am happy its black as it matches the rest of my peripherals. I like to match.
There are two new things with the new My Book Elite, one is that it’s the first External Hard Drive with digital paper (that I am aware of). The Digital paper will display any label you put on the drive and how much storage you have remaining even if the device has no power. The second is the WD SMartWare software which is 100 times better than their previous software.
On the 23rd of November Opera invited us all to test out the new version of their browser (10.10) and it would seem that people have taken advantage of the invitation because 7 days later more than 12 million people have downloaded the browser.
“With such remarkable download numbers, I am confident that we truly appealed to the needs of the Web-using public. Opera 10.10 is visually more compelling, and technologically speaking, it goes where no browser has gone before,” said Jon von Tetzchner, CEO, Opera Software. “We believe that, over time, Opera Unite has the power to erase preconceptions of how we access and share information on the Web.”

The limited-edition latops which inspired by Steeler’s Hines Ward, the Office’s Rainn Wilson, Aerosmith’s Joe Perry and House actor Omar Epps are up for auction until tomorrow.
